Moonflower Roots (Petrarchan Sonnet by Maddie)

Flushed buds peel open pearl blossoms in spring
newborn roots, in preparation to sprout
fibrous matter traveling up a route
connecting soil and water that sings
to petals, who leap with gossamer wings.
Pollen expels even in a sere drought
under tingling sun rays without a doubt,
ripe scents belting chords and notes, lingering.

Roots traveling deep into a clear sky
dilating, winding against nature’s seal
curvatures like threads wrapped around spindles,
twisting southern paths where hummingbirds fly,
green twine embraces golden light, surreal,
beckoning to moon’s glow like white angels.

Brushstrokes (Freeverse by Maddie)

Water plus color
equal rainbow hues
that dance and slide
down parchment
staining wood fibers.

Yellow flowers, blue stems
give birth to lavender fragrance
mystifying oxygen bubbles
that rise to treetops
and hover with sparrows.

Purple drops mingle
with gray cumulus
letting fall teal droplets
spotting the moon above,
as your fingers followed
the paintbrushes swift motions
across cavas,
letting blue melt to red
and red bleed down
into sunrise.

Branches (Freeverse by Maddie)

We started
as small red seeds,
rich brown soil,
our haven
falling droplets,
our essence.

We sprouted after the winter
fragile
green limbs
poking out from
dirt.

Growing on
one tall
lean stalk,
but one late summer,
right before
the leaves faded
yellow
and burned red
our stalk,
diverged
into two,
years pass
and three
four
five
stalks
held by
the same roots
supported by
a common beginning.
